InteriorExterior: Metallics

Introducing our newest feature, InteriorExterior, where we discuss ways to incorporate runway trends into your home. In our first edition, Sean shows us how to throw a little shine into your decor and matches it with some current street style looks. We range from a touch of metallic to a whole lotta look to suite you all depending on how heavy metal you want to go.

If you have yet to meet me, there is something you ought to know - I love glitter. Nothing makes me happier than the flecks of sparkle permanently pressed into my RL card holder from this past year's Pride Parade; unless, of course, it is a shiny new purchase! While I am all about the sequins and shine, I am the first to admit that I can pull a metallic off in the home, far better than on the catwalk. But regardless, metallics are everywhere!

A metal side table is the perfect way to sneak in some shine to nearly any space. The geometric shape adds interest, while the aluminum finish almost acts as a solid, making this the perfect perch for any martini glass! {lower right, West Elm, $149}

Decorative pendant lamps are another way to introduce metallic into your home; whether dotting the kitchen counter, or clustered over a dining table, these copper globes look best in sets of three! {top right, Neena's, $289}

The Mac Daddy of metallics has to be a shimmery, upholstered sofa. Pick a transitional piece and amp it up with a silver, sand or white metallic covering, tone the throw pillows down with a solid texture (think black mongolian lamb) and pair it with a chair with similar lines in a coordinating print. Trust me! {Circle Furniture, starting at $4300}
